Custom created, hand-designed ketubot, papercuts and invitations

A Ketubah is a Jewish marriage contract that all grooms are required to give their brides and outlines his obligations.  The original text was Aramaic but can be written in any language the couple chooses, including Hebrew and English.

In modern times, the Ketubah has come to symbolize the hope and future of a couple, and is usually a beautifully decorated document that the couple can hang in their home as a keepsake and proof of their commitment to love, honor and respect one another.  A custom ordered Ketubah further unites the couple in the way that its unique design reflects both parties.

The literal translation of ketubah is "it is written," and most of the texts today include the date and place of the wedding, the names of the bride and groom, parents names and signatures of the witnesses.  Traditional Ketubot (pl) also detail the trousseau and other financial aspects of the marriage.

Created nearly 2000 years ago as a protection to wives in the event of becoming widowed or divorced, the Ketubah is the document in which the bridegroom promises to honor his wife, work for her, maintain her, and honestly provide her with everything necessary for her comfort.  It is also one of the first legal documents giving financial and legal rights to women

Today's ketubot contain a variety of alternative texts meeting the unique needs of the couple and are sometimes drafted by the couple to give the ketubah extra-special significance.

All of Karla's ketubot are hand-painted, hand-cut and original designs.
